About This Recipe:
Fresh lime is what separates a proper Cuba Libre from a rum and coke. It lightens the mix and cuts through the sweetness of the cola. Use a real lime, not bottled juice — it is the whole difference.
The rum matters more than most people think. Cola is already sweet, and most commercial rums arrive with added sugar of their own, which means the drink is being sweetened twice before it reaches the glass. Neither Bombarda Plunder nor Culverin carries any added sugar, so the cola stays in balance instead of running away with the drink.
Plunder, our silver blend, keeps it bright and clean. Culverin, golden and peppery, gives it more weight and a drier finish. Captain James takes it with Culverin.
Battle Notes: Use ingredients as cold as possible.
