A tribute to the Capitana, and to the captains who sailed
Capitana is named for the Capitana El Rubí, flagship of the 1733 Nueva España treasure fleet. She sailed from Havana on a Friday the 13th, and a hurricane drove her and twenty-one other ships onto the reefs of the Florida Keys the following day. She rests there still, in about twenty feet of water off Plantation Key.
This set is our dedication to that day, and to every captain who took a ship out onto open water knowing what the sea could do. A celebrated Florida rum, named for a wreck in Florida waters, presented the way a gun was carried on a fighting deck.

The United States turns 250 once. This set is our salute to the semiquincentennial, and it is available for the anniversary year only — on 1 January 2027 it is retired. Whatever is left at that point is the last of it, and there will be no reissue.
That is not a sales tactic. An anniversary release that outlives its anniversary is just a product.

Why rum, for America's 250th
Because rum was there. Before bourbon, before American whiskey was a commercial product, the colonies ran on rum — distilled in New England, traded up and down the coast, drunk in the taverns where independence was argued into being. It was the first American spirit, and it financed a great deal of what followed.
A rum set is a more historically honest way to mark 1776 than most of what will be sold this year.
